As a user of Braun shavers since they first appeared on the market in the 1950s, I can attest that their quality and performance have not faltered ever since their introduction. The latest version I recently purchased remains the best there is.
Bought for my boyfriend and he loves it. He had an old Braun, dont even know the model and this one holds a charge forever and cuts nice and clean. He loves it!
I get a very good shave and I no longer cut my upper lip or my chin! And I love the cleaning station. Excellent choice! The foil shaver is far better than the rotary shaver.
Bought the Braun 5199CC to replace another Braun I had. Works great, surprised by how much more powerful it is compared to my last one. very easy to use with a lot of control. also the battery lasts for a long time.
I purchased to give him for Christmas. He has used razors before -and still had one- this looked different - so I got it for him. He has packed up the razor since he opened this - so I think he likes it better.
Great shaver! Leaves my face smoother than any shaver I have used. The cleaning/recharging unit works great. BUT the handle design is such that when my hand is in a comfortable position holding the shaver, my thumb keeps pressing the ON/OFF button - very frustrating. Also, the trimmer is much smaller than the one on my Series 5 8985 and has lost its usefulness for my needs.
The shaver does a pretty good job, but the lock to hold the head in place is of questionable value and doesn't hold that well. Also, the cleaning tank doesn't last as long as I had expected. I may just flush the head with warm water, and not use the cleaning function which begs the question of its value.
Older Series 5 better design and quality than newest version
The older version (purchased ca. 10 yrs. ago) is more compact in size, has less plastic and more metal in build, and is more convenient to use -- both for shaving and trimming. In short, I do not recommend replacing your older model with the most recent one.
