Do you hate to shave? Is your skin easily irritated? Do you like options? Then this may be the electric razor for you... The Braun Series 5 5040 let's you choose - you can shave with gel/cream or you can shave dry as with a typical electric razor. Either way the result is as close a shave as I have ever had with an electric razor if not better. I like the flexibility in the head and the independence of the shaving areas. The result was that even the more stiff hairs were cut and it got the stubble regardless of the directions the hairs were pointed. I typically use a mid to high-end range electric razor for my daily maintenance. I also use a groomer to keep the mustache and goatee in shape. Typically on the weekend I also do one or two shaves with a traditional style razor and gel to get a fully groomed face. I say thumbs up to this new option from Braun - as they used to say on a commercial - "Try it - you'll like it!"

Don't dull your first blades too quickly

I bought the 5040s to replace my 5414 that finally wore out and came apart in pieces so i had to trash it. I must have had it for more than 20 years. But my new 5040s wet/dry shaver is a much much better shaver. Very powerful and a great smooth shave with or without the cord. I use it with shaving soap or some type of lather. The foil and blades are designed as one unit (cassette)which works the same as the (2) part unit. Now here's the catcher!!!!!!! After owning this shaver for a couple of months, I've tried to order some replacement blades but they keep telling me they don't have any available on the market yet. WOW!!!!! COME ON BRAUN!!!! One cassette MIGHT NOT LAST FOREVER. Hope they have them by the time i need to replace my first cassette.I really like my new shaver.

Not All Series 5 Are Created Equal

I asked Santa (Mrs Santa) to buy me the Series 5 5040S to use in the shower and was not pleased with the results. In fact after the second and third use I had significant razor burn on my neck. Tired using it as a dry razor too; same result. My son uses a series 3 with cleaning station and recommend I purchase a Series 5 Cleaning station in the hopes that it would improve my experience, which I did. Turns out the Series 5 Clean and Renew Charging Station (7090899) did not fit my brand new 5040S razor. In fact it damaged the foil head of my razor when I docked it. I'm considering chucking the entire kit in the garbage--total $164 shaver and $55.95 cleaning and charging station...of course I can purchase replacement my damaged foils for another $45...Oh my, this just keeps getting better! This has been an awful experience.
